DS MACKENZIE SCHOOL
This project involved renovation and conversion of the existing library, computer lab, art room and classroom into a state of the art Learning Common. The new Learning Common was to become the new identifiable hub of the school which meant opening up previously concealed spaces (behind concrete block walls). The result provides a welcoming learning and working environment for students. The design process involved detailed site investigations and iterative design process with the EPSB Project Manager and the school principal. Several design options were presented with costing to determine the best approach that would fit within budget. The result was an open and bright design that supported learning objectives.
During construction, several unforeseen conditions were encountered related to HazMat abatement and structural upgrades that were required. Throughout the process, MTA worked with the contractor to find the least disruptive solution for the best price.
