University of Alberta Twin Arena

Edmonton, AB

The project includes the development of the functional programming and concept design for a new varsity arena, community ice rink and High Performance Athletic Research Training Centre and parkade structure, to support the detailed business case developed by RC Strategies. The facility is to be located on South Campus adjacent to the existing Saville Community Sports Centre (west). The vision is for a twin arena facility (3000 seat varsity arena and 400 seat community ice pad) with university athletics space, academic space and training space which will be physically linked to the Saville Community Sports Centre. Design work involved consultation with Faculty of PhysEd, Campus Planning and operations staff with a focus on developing a concept site plan that supported the South Campus Master Plan, community integration and related Sector Plan. Additional work involved the development of 3D renderings depicting the quality and character of the facility in support of a donor fundraising campaign.
