The project involved a site selection process and subsequent design of a conceptual model for the City’s proposed 50m Province-wide competition aquatics venue. Phase 1 centred on review of Red Deer’s existing fleet of aquatic facilities, and comparative analysis of potential sites for aquatic revitalization verses new build. With reference to the master planning documents, it provided qualitative analysis such as programming synergies and benefits to the community. It also modeled all associated quantitative costs such as capital and site servicing costs, as well as a detailed operation cost analysis for both the downtown site and a green field site. The site selection report ultimately favoured locating the facility at the downtown park site; and the conceptual model was developed in phase 2 based on this preference. It will integrate an existing recreation centre with the addition of a new 54m FINA competition pool, a 25m diving tank with 3m, 5m, 7.5m and 10m diving platforms, a 25m outdoor lap/leisure pool, competition flow rider and a wellness centre.
