MTa was involved in 2015 for entrance upgrades and some interior changes and renovations of the Carewest Garrison Green building which MTa designed and implemented in 2010. Carewest Garrison Green is an aging and wellness community representing essential ideas about integrated care and sustainability. This highly visible long term care facility is situated at the entrance to the new southwest inner-City neighbourhood of Garrison Green (on reclaimed Canadian Forces Base lands, adjacent to a recently completed supportive living residence), as part of a comprehensive aging-in-place community planning concept.
With the stewardship of Alberta Health Services, we worked closely with AHS user groups and stakeholders to create an innovative home living environment for its 200 residents, which include: cognitively intact frail elderly (Lifestyle Choices Programme), young adults with physical handicaps (Equal Programme), a secured dementia population (Supportive Pathways Programme), and a conscious accommodation for bariatric residents. Provisions have also been made to readily adapt suites to Designated Assisted Living (DAL) functioning standards, allowing for furniture Alberta Health Services policy modifications.
