The 250 seat Discovery Theatre Addition is the third and final stage in the development of the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. The first stage, the original 1961 building, established a design approach for the future additions. It is considered to be one of the best examples of a modern approach to "Rocky Mountain Architecture" found in Banff National Park.
In 1991 the second stage was completed with an interpretation of the original buildings expressive concrete structure and rich palate of natural materials. In a similar manner, the Discovery Theatre Addition follows the established design approach to create a unique element in the same spirit and vocabulary.
