West Parc Housing - Master Plan

Portland, Oregon

West Parc is a 40-acre parcel of land that includes housing, assisted living units, offices and park spaces. The housing component of the West Parc Housing Master Plan provided direction for the design of 550 housing units on 14 acres of land. This high-density, low-rise development is comprised of 380 apartments units, 170 town home units, plus a recreational centre and a pool. Located between parkland to the west, and shopping / office district to the east, the Master Plan strongly promotes a pedestrian environment.

The planning principles create an urban street, with emphasis on the sculpting of the street edge and the containment of the street. The narrow streets and short blocks are typical of urban Portland, with the buildings set close to the edge of the sidewalk. Porches, sunken patios, and individual addresses all contribute to the creation of an inhabited, pedestrian-oriented street.
