Although early in his life Bill Marshall was extremely visually oriented and possessed an affinity for music and mechanical repair, it was after a 10-month bicycle trip in Europe in 1973 that he cemented his decision to go into Architecture. "I wanted to understand how to create and build these magnificent places I had seen. Also, I was a natural communicator and wanted to share with people what I see and know."
To be a successful architect, Bill feels, you must "understand how to serve your clients." But to run a successful architectural firm, you must also be a strong creative leader, as well as a tireless promoter of the firm's accomplishments. "We can achieve anything.we have. I'd like our work to make a lasting contribution. I'm proud of our built accomplishments."
Under his creative direction, MTA has created amazing projects over the years particularly in the resort and hospitality sector. "The remarkable trust of our clients-and their loyalty-has been fantastic. You have to continually preserve and enhance this relationship. You have to be a creative force for your clients and demonstrate conviction and determination."
Overall, Bill sees Architecture as frozen music, a synthesis of form, space, colour and light, with its primary aim that of instilling pride and joy in the people who inhabit the finished projects. He hopes to distinguish MTA from other architectural firms by continuing to be progressive and visionary. "These are intangible. Life's short, so make your work great. Pour your heart into it."
