Designing Green |
 |
Many of our projects are located in or near some of Canada's most beautiful
mountain national parks. Preserving these and being sensitive to all
environments that we build in, including urban and rural settings, is
a priority of MTA. Currently the recognized benchmark for sustainable
buildings is the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED
TM ) standard.
Designing a building that meets the LEED TM standard requires special
considerations by clients, architects and other consultants. The integrated
involvement of key design professionals, construction managers and client
representatives from the start of the design process helps to achieve
these green design initiatives.
Over the past 20 years MTA has participated
in a number of design charettes and partnering sessions, bringing together
owners, users and design professionals and providing a forum for identifying
project goals, objectives and client priorities. We have transferred
this experience to an "Integrated Design
Approach," with attention paid to green design and the development of
alternative approaches to building construction during the early
conceptual stages of project design.
The Canmore Civic Centre & Museum was MTA’s first LEED “Silver Rating” certified facility. It has acted as a benchmark for current and future projects as we embark on an “Integrated Design Approach.”
As the Bow Valley corridor and the City of Calgary comprise one of
the fastest growing regions in North America, the implementation
of green initiatives in MTA projects will become more imperative. The demand
for more sustainable vision in building design is increasing both locally
and globally. |
